A Hot Ride for Your Dog | Auto Air

You should never leave a pet in a parked car, even if the auto air is working. But, you should get needed auto air service before traveling with your fuzzy friend.

One of the classic sights along the roads during the summertime is a car whizzing by with a happy-looking dog hanging out the window, tongue and ears flapping in the breeze. Your dog may like the breeze blowing in his face, but animal welfare experts say it’s a dangerous habit because it exposes your dog to all sorts of possible injuries. Animal welfare experts, like those at the Humane Society of the U.S. also warn that you should never leave your dog (or cat, or gerbil, or python, or any other pet) in a parked car. Even with air conditioning, the temperature can quickly rise to dangerous levels.

“On an 85-degree day, for example, the temperature inside a car with the windows opened slightly can reach 102 degrees within 10 minutes. After 30 minutes, the temperature will reach 120 degrees. Your pet may suffer irreversible organ damage or die,” according to the Humane Society.

So, if you take Lassie with you to the Isthmus Food Cart Fest, check ahead to make sure she’s welcome. Once there, make sure she wanders around with you while you’re there rather than waiting in the car. But what about getting there? And getting home?

Well, you also need to make sure that the ride is comfortable and safe. And that means, among other things, that you need to make sure car’s a/c is working. (It’s also good for you. Who wants to drive around being hot and sweaty?) If you find your auto air isn’t working, there could be many reasons from leaking coolant to electrical problems.
