Unbalanced? It might be your tires

Your tires and wheels can get out of balance from normal wear and tear.

Unless you have a REALLY good memory, you probably can’t recall those days when you were a baby just learning to walk. There were those wobbly steps as you reached out to hang onto anything that would help keep you upright. Then, one day, you got your balance and off you went. And as life went on, you found balance was important for other things – riding a bike, making sure your work doesn’t overwhelm your life (and vice versa), learning to do yoga on a paddleboard at Lake Monona.

Balance is also important for the tires on your car or truck. As tires.about.com explains: “In essence, wheels and tires are never exactly the same weight all around. … Tires will also have slight weight imbalances…. At high speeds, a tiny imbalance in weight can easily become a large imbalance in centrifugal force, causing the wheel/tire assembly to spin with a kind of ‘galumphing’ motion. This usually translates into a vibration in the car as well as some very irregular and damaging wear on the tires.”

Terry’s Car Care can fix that by balancing your tires (sometimes called a wheel balancing). And while we’re doing that, we can rotate them and check them for wear and tear. If you need to replace one or more tires, we supply tires of all sizes, styles and brands – Goodyear, Goodrich, Firestone, Kumho, you name it – to fit every vehicle.
